I was delighted to snag a free copy of Sally Britton’s Romancing the Artist, as I had yet to read anything by her. Immersing myself in this captivating story via ebook for an entire week, proved well worth my time!
Review of the book
Plot
I couldn’t put the book down! The plot built up in a slow and steady manner, carrying me along for an incredible journey. The detail in the story was captivating, with each twist and turn of events drawing me further in. I found myself up late into the night, unable to put it down until I had finished it.
Would it be terribly foolish for her to sigh in contentment every time she thought of him?

Setting
I was immediately captivated and enchanted by the setting of the book. Set in the romantic art movement in England, it was a place filled with magic and beauty that I wanted to stay in forever. The descriptions of castles and seas were vivid, and detailed, and truly brought me into the story. Not only were there amazing views but there were also plenty of fun parties and outdoor festivities that kept me engaged. I felt like I could reach out and touch the characters, feeling a part of the story.
Characters
I really enjoyed reading the book because of the great development of both the main characters, Caroline and Edward. Caroline was a unique character for her time period – she was more independent and loved to paint. This inner dialogue gave her depth and made it easy to connect with her as a reader.
Edward, on the other hand, was a true gentleman. His conversations with Caroline were always amusing and kept me engaged throughout the book. Both characters progressed and grew a lot during the course of the novel, and it was fascinating to follow their journey.
The side characters added an extra layer of dimension to the storyline too, making this book even more enjoyable. By the end of the story, I was rooting for Caroline and Edward as their relationship changed and developed!
Perhaps art and love were part of the same thing. They both required that a person look outside of themselvves to find beauty, meaning, and truth.

Tropes
I absolutely adored the classic fake dating trope in this book. Although Caroline and Edward were pretending to be in a relationship, they quickly realized that they had genuine feelings for each other and their relationship shifted from pretend to real. There was plenty of witty banter between the two and I felt like I was in on their secret, watching them grow closer and fall in love.
Writing Style
I was immediately drawn into the story by the author’s immersive writing style. Every word seemed to leap off the page, transporting me back to a time of castles and seas. I can’t wait to read even more books by Sally Britton now!
My thoughts on the book
I absolutely loved this book because it had such engaging and complex characters that I could really connect with. It was a perfect read for my day at the beach or for some quiet time in the summer – light, fun, and quick. The book kept my attention until the very end and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet romance to read.
