Guess what book just stole my heart? Yep, you got it, Kayak Girl by Ivy Emerson. I stumbled upon this little gem on bookstagram, and couldn’t resist the lure of an ARC copy. Conveniently, it came as an ebook – perfect for my constant on-the-go lifestyle recently. I devoured this compelling story in just about a week. Now, I can’t wait to share my thoughts with you all.

Plot
You know, there’s something special about a contemporary romance that goes beyond the usual. It’s not always about the light, fluffy plot that gets to you. This one surprised me – it had a plot that kept me turning pages. The author’s got a knack for keeping the story moving, never letting it drag.
And the layout? Oh, it was a delight! Everything placed just right, engaging me in ways I didn’t expect. Really, it’s books like these that remind me why I love reading so much!
Setting
I can’t help but adore the coastal setting in this book—it simply adds a layer of fun that’s hard to resist. There’s something about the way the author describes the kayak trips and other locations that make you feel like you’re right there, part of the story.
You’re not just getting to know the characters through their actions or dialogues, but also through the places they inhabit. It’s like you’re on a vacation with them, exploring their world while you turn the pages.
You know a book is good when it can transport you like that!
Characters
I’ve got to tell you, this book truly touched my heart. The sweet, blossoming relationship between Grey and Elle gave me all the feels. And what’s more, they’re not just flat characters. They’ve got depth, they’ve got scars, and they’ve got stories that make you root for them even more.
His lazy smile made me want to kiss him even more.

Their journey made me realize how much we all need a little bit of grace in our lives, how we need to forgive ourselves and others to truly move forward.
Now, I’ve got to admit – I usually roll my eyes at the whole miscommunication trope. But here, it totally worked. It was just so… Elle. It wasn’t thrown in just for creating unnecessary drama, but rather, it added layers to Elle’s character, making her more relatable and real.
So, despite my initial apprehension, I ended up appreciating this trope in the book.
Writing Style
I’ve got to tell you, there’s something really special about Ivy Emerson’s writing style. It’s like stepping into a conversation with an old friend – the kind that keeps you on the edge of your seat with their stories. Emerson has a way with words that not only draws you in but makes you feel like you’re a part of the narrative.
It’s so easy to read, you feel like you’re strolling through the pages, not laboring over dense text. But the best part?
You feel transported into the heart of the story, living and breathing with the characters. It’s wonderful, truly.

My thoughts on the book
I gotta tell you, Kayak Girl had me hooked! It was a solid 4 out of 5 stars for me, only because I felt like there was a tiny bit missing, you know? But let’s talk about the good stuff!
The characters absolutely stole my heart with their swoony romance. I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of heart-fluttering love story, right? And something else that really stood out to me was the strong faith themes. It was refreshing and really added a layer of depth to the story.
