I grabbed The Librarian’s Ruse because Thirzah was so kind and sent me the book in exchange for an honest review. Can you believe this was her first book? Such an amazing achievement! I read it in ebook format, which was a lifesaver considering how hectic my weeks have been lately.
Review of the book
Plot
From the start, this book had me hooked. The plot was like a roller-coaster taking me on a thrilling journey I didn’t want to end. But what really set this book apart was its simplicity and the characters.
Characters
Those characters in the book? They were more than just words on a page. They felt like real people with quirks and flaws that made the story come alive.
You know what made me absolutely love this book? Thirzah’s ability to suck me right into the story. I mean, I was totally invested in what happened to Amelia and Leon. Their sibling relationship was so captivating.
At different points in the story, I caught myself holding my breath in suspense, getting frustrated and pulling my hair, or waiting to see what would happen next. Thirzah’s storytelling skills are just perfect.
Oh, and there’s a little bit of romance too, but it’s more like a side story.
Writing Style
To tell you the truth, I was absolutely swept away by the fluidity of Thirzah’s storytelling. Her writing style was like a gentle river current – it grabbed hold of me and carried me along effortlessly. Every sentence, every word just flowed seamlessly into the next.
Now, let’s talk about that miscommunication trope. Yeah, it was heavily relied on. It could be frustrating, yet, there was this undeniable charm to it that kept me hooked. It mixed perfectly with the mistaken identity trope.
It made the characters more real and relatable. Despite the trials of this trope, I closed the book with a content sigh. It’s safe to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride!
My thoughts on The Librarian’s Ruse by Thirzah
Without a doubt, The Librarian’s Ruse was a standout read for me. First off, the pace of the book was nothing short of perfect. The plot zipped along at just the right speed. It had me captivated from the get-go, turning page after page, just needing to find out what happens next.
And then, the characters and setting? Just wow! The characters were so vivid, so real, it was as if they could step right off the pages. The setting was so well described, that I could envision myself right there alongside them.
All these elements combined transformed The Librarian’s Ruse into more than just a book. It was an experience, a journey that I’ll gladly revisit time and time again.
In my book (pun absolutely intended), this earns 4 stars! If you’re in the market for a fast-paced, character-driven story set in a richly drawn world, then friends, The Librarian’s Ruse by Thirzah is a must-read!
