Thereโs nothing better than getting lost in a romance you can fully enjoy, no second-guessing, no skipping pages.
Thatโs actually why I started being really intentional about the books I read. After a few too many โthis isnโt what I thought it wasโ moments, I knew I wanted stories that felt good from start to finish.
At this point, Iโve been reading clean romance books for years, and itโs all I pick up now. I also run a book club focused on clean and Christian books, so Iโm constantly reading, filtering, and finding ones that are actually worth your time.
So think of this list as your shortcut.
Youโll find a mix of popular authors like Pepper Basham and some hidden gems like Gracie Ruth Mitchell that you may not have heard of yet, but will love.
These are all books Iโve personally read, loved, and feel good recommending.
Letโs get into it!

What Is Clean Romance?
This is one of those things that can mean something different to everyone, so I always like to be really clear about what I mean when I say clean romance.
This comes up all the time in our Facebook group, and honestly, I get it. โCleanโ can feel a little vague depending on who you ask.
For me, and here on Fruitful Reader, clean romance looks like this:
- Kisses only romance
- No explicit content or open-door scenes
- Closed-door, fade-to-black moments only
- Low to mild violence, nothing intense
- No to mild language
- If something has stronger language or content, Iโll always tell you
When it comes to relationships, I focus on books that align with my values. Occasionally, there may be a side character with an LGBTQ lifestyle, but I make sure to mention that so you know what to expect.
I know everyoneโs comfort level is a little different, so my goal is always to be upfront and clear. That way, you can go into these books feeling confident about what youโre picking up.
My Favorite Books You Have To Read

Read this is you want:
When actor Jack Stapleton returns home to Texas to care for his sick mom while dealing with a stalker, his team brings in Hannah, an Executive Protection Agent, to keep him safe. The twist is she has to pretend to be his girlfriend while doing it.
This one was so fun. I loved the role reversal with the bodyguard trope. You donโt see that very often, and it made the whole story feel really fresh. The banter is so good too. I laughed way more than I expected to, which made it such an easy, enjoyable read.
Just a heads up, this one does have some stronger language and a closed-door scene, so keep that in mind depending on your preferences.

2. The Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay
Contemporary Romance
โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโ (4/5 stars on Goodreads)
Read this is you want:
Madeline Cullen inherits her auntโs struggling bookshop and plans to sell it, but as she spends time there with the shopโs employees and new connections, she begins to rethink both the storeโs future and her own.
As someone who spends way too much time in bookstores, I loved this one. The setting alone is enough to pull you in.
But what really stood out to me were the characters. They feel real, a little messy, and you get to watch them grow in such a meaningful way.
The themes of friendship and forgiveness add so much depth, and itโs one of those stories that just stays with you after you finish.

Itโs heartwarming, easy to read, and perfect if you want something short.

FAQs
Are clean and Christian romance the same thing?
Theyโre not always the same, even though they often overlap. Clean romance focuses on keeping content closed-door and appropriate, while Christian romance usually includes faith themes and spiritual growth. You can have a clean story without faith elements, but Christian romance will typically include both.
Can you still feel the chemistry in these stories?
Yes, absolutely. In many cases, the chemistry feels even stronger because the focus is on emotional connection, tension, and meaningful moments instead of physical scenes. The relationships build more naturally, which makes them really satisfying to read.
